RU EN
In this sense, the city can be seen as a game in which every action becomes the next move.

Digital Step invites artists to imagine the city as a game shaped by actions, choices, and events. Every step taken through the city can leave a digital footprint. Data about an action can, in turn, influence what happens next. The project invites artists to explore this sequence and reflect on where the boundaries lie between individual choice, the rules of the urban environment, and digital cues.

At the heart of the new concept is a view of the city as a space of multiple games, scenarios, and sequences of actions.
A city is made up of events. Some recur every day; others happen by chance. People choose routes, respond to circumstances, change direction, follow cues, follow rules, or look for alternative ways to act.
Does our digital footprint always follow us, or do we eventually begin to follow it?
A Step in the City, a Trace in the Game
THE CITY

To see the city as a sequence of events—both predictable and unexpected—and invite artists to interpret it in their own way

ARTISTS

To bring digital artists together around a shared question about the city and reveal the diversity of their responses

THE AUDIENCE

To turn an everyday journey into an encounter with digital art—one that leaves an imprint on the viewer’s perception and changes the way they see familiar surroundings

“Mushroom” Screen

Source canvas
15,680 × 5,120 px
Rows
10 rows, each 512 px high
Row widths
15680 / 14400 / 11520 / 8640 / 5600 / 3040 / 2240 / 2080 / 1920 / 1760
File preparation
full rectangular canvas, 15,680 × 5,120 px
Horizontal compression increases towards the lower rows, reaching almost ninefold at the bottom. Text, faces, and circular shapes become noticeably distorted in the lower third. Solid areas of colour work best there, while fine details and vertical lines are better placed in the upper rows.

Perimeter Screen

Source canvas
6,336 × 2,048 px — one file for all four walls
Each wall
6,336 × 512 px
File layout
Wall 1 — Y 0; Wall 2 — Y 512; Wall 3 — Y 1,024; Wall 4 — Y 1,536
Wall aspect ratio
12.4 : 1
The screen is transparent. The room remains visible behind the image, so dark or semi-transparent scenes are less legible. Solid colours, strong contrast, and clearly defined outlines work best.
Applications accepted through November 8, 2026

Your work will be shown on the indoor digital screens at the Video Game and Animation Cluster in Skolkovo during the exhibition.
